About

PROGRAM SCOPE

Primary Focus: High School, Collegiate, and Masters Athletes.

Foundation Requirement: Primary focus is on High School, Collegiate, and Masters athletes. Middle school athletes are considered on a strictly case-by-case basis and must demonstrate technical maturity and competitive focus..

The Residency Selection Process

Admission into Gem State Elite is selective. We are looking for athletes who are not just physically capable, but mentally disciplined. Our process is designed to ensure a mutual fit between the athlete’s goals and our high-performance standards.

Step 1: The Initial Inquiry

Begin by completing our Athlete Questionnaire. This provides our staff with your academic standing, athletic history, and current goals.

Step 2: The Interview & Evaluation ($25 Investment)

If your inquiry meets our initial program standards, you will move into a two-week evaluation period to ensure we are a good fit for your long and short tern goals:

  • The Discovery Call: A brief phone interview to discuss expectations and commitment.
  • The Technical Evaluation: A scheduled in-ring session with a member of our coaching staff to assess movement, baseline technique, and "Coachability."

Step 3: Residency Onboarding

Athletes who successfully complete the evaluation will receive their official Residency Performance Agreement (Code of Conduct) Residents gain access to:

  • The Resident Portal: A private, members-only digital hub featuring technical analysis, exclusive training resources, and our "State of the Circle" blog.
  • Coordinated Training: Access to our specialized facilities and regular technical sessions.

What We Look For in the Evaluation

During the two-week interview process, our staff evaluates athletes based on three core pillars:

  1. Commitment to Standards: Does the athlete demonstrate the discipline to follow the "Residency Standards" (GPA maintenance, Sunday night logs, punctuality) without being chased?
  2. Technical Coachability: We define "Coachability" as the ability to receive a technical cue, process it mentally, and attempt the physical adjustment without ego. We are looking for athletes who are willing to "break" an old habit to build a superior technical foundation.
  3. Competitive Maturity: We are looking for athletes who own their results. This means arriving "Ring-Ready" with their own equipment and demonstrating a drive for self-improvement that exists outside of coach-led sessions.

THE RESIDENCY STANDARDS

To maintain a spot in the Gem State Elite high-performance culture, all residents must meet these technical and administrative requirements:

  • Academic Accountability: We prioritize the "student" in student-athlete.
    • Requirement: Residents must submit a copy of their current grades/progress report by the 1st of every month. Failure to maintain eligibility may result in a mandatory training pause.
  • Physical Preparation: Success in the ring is built in the weight room.
    • Requirement: A consistent, 3-day-per-week strength program is mandatory. Training logs must be submitted via email to gemstatethrowers@gmail.com every Sunday night by 8:00 PM to be eligible for the following week’s ring sessions.
  • Athlete Ownership: We develop self-sufficient leaders.
    • Requirement: All communication regarding scheduling, technical feedback, and goals must come directly from the athlete. Parents are supporters, but the athlete is the primary point of contact for the Residency.
  • Professional Preparation: Residents are expected to be specialists.
    • Requirement: Mandatory equipment includes specialized throwing shoes and personal implements (Shot/Discus/Hammer). Athletes must arrive "ring-ready" for every session.
  • Administrative Professionalism: Respect for the coaching staff’s time is non-negotiable.
    • Requirement: Adherence to the 48-hour cancellation policy and the "No-Makeup Sunday" rule.

RESIDENCY INVESTMENT & COMMITMENT

Gem State Elite operates as a optional year-round technical residency designed for long-term development. We prioritize athletes committed to a consistent training cycle.

  • Treasure Valley Residency (Nampa/Caldwell/Meridian): $75 per month.
    • Includes two high-intensity technical sessions per week.
    • More sessions can available upon request
    • Covers all facility access, ring fees, and USATF club insurance.
  • Homedale Residency: Pricing is currently TBD.
  • Uniforms & Competition: While a specific uniform is not required for weekly training sessions, athletes representing Gem State Elite in summer or winter competitions are required to invest in official team gear (singlet or t-shirt), available through our team store.

ENROLLMENT & CANCELLATION

At Gem State Elite, we don't encourage "coaching spurts." We are looking for athletes committed to a year-round technical journey. However, we also believe the best throwers are often multi-sport athletes. We want you to stay technically sharp while you compete for your school in other arenas. We also know that athletes have lives, so if shorter commitments are needed, don't hesitate to let us know.

Residency (Treasure Valley & Homedale)

  • Investment: $75 per month. Homedale TBD
  • What’s Included: Two high-intensity technical sessions per week, all specialized facility/ring access fees, and USATF club insurance. More sessions available based on availability.
  • Homedale Residency: Pricing is currently TBD.

The Multi-Sport "In-Season Tuning" Tier

For athletes currently in-season for another sport (Football, Wrestling, Volleyball, etc.) who want to maintain their technical "feel" without the full weekly workload:

  • Commitment: 1–2 sessions per month.
  • Investment: TBD per month (Covers maintenance coaching and continued ring access/insurance to hold your spot in the residency).

The Mutual Partnership & Termination

  • Flexible Termination: Either party may terminate the residency at any time, for any reason. We believe in "clean breaks."
  • No-Refund Policy: Residency dues are non-refundable. If the relationship is terminated mid-month, no reimbursements will be issued. This ensures we can maintain facility stability and coaching availability for all residents.

COMPETITION & MEET PHILOSOPHY

Gem State Elite is a Technical Residency, not a traditional travel club. Our primary focus is the mastery of the discipline and long-term athletic development. While we are a technical-first program, competition is highly encouraged. Meets are the "laboratory" where athletes see their technical tuning come to life under pressure.

  • Individualized Selection: We do not provide a pre-set seasonal "meet schedule." Instead, competitions (Summer or Winter) are predetermined on a case-by-case basis through consultation between the athlete and the Gem State Coaching Staff. Selection is based on the athlete's technical readiness and specific peak-performance goals.
  • Athlete Autonomy: We develop athletes who are prepared to compete at a high level. As such, athletes and their families are responsible for:
    • All meet registration and entry fees.
    • All individual travel, lodging, and logistics.
    • Funding for regional or national-level events.
  • The "Solo" Standard: The residency prepares you to be technically self-sufficient in any ring, anywhere. While members of our Coaching Staff may attend specific high-priority meets based on location and availability (Treasure Valley or Homedale), our goal is to build athletes who can execute their technique independently and professionally on any stage.

Why Specialized Throws?

Throwing is a high-precision niche. At Gem State Elite, we don't just 'watch' you throw—we architect your technique. Our staff brings decades of Division I and Olympic-level mentorship to the ring, providing a level of specialized instruction that is rare in the Treasure Valley.
